Meet the Family

Lenny and Squiggy......the ones who started it all!

Because Lenny and Squiggy made a daring escape off a truck headed to the slaughterhouse, they inspired us to rescue them and start a nonprofit farm animal sanctuary.

Bamm Bamm

When the Fauquier SPCA asked us if we would take in this cutie pie, we were happy to help! In 2025, he some how injured his back foot. After months of treatment, the vet recommended amputation of the leg or euthanasia. Euthanasia would never be a consideration of ours. We are so proud of this strong, amazing boy who doesn't let anything slow him down!

Alvin, Simon and Theodore

Once the idea of Fauna Haven Animal Sanctuary was born, we visited a pig sanctuary since we had never been to a sanctuary. A short time later, we were asked if we could take in three baby piggies (3mo old) who were dumped on the side of the road. They will have no worry of ever being dumped again as they are now at their forever home at Fauna Haven!

Elsa

We were contacted by someone regarding a stray pig in neighboring Louisa County. She had been wondering farm to farm, getting food. A snow/ice storm came in and one of the families feeding her became very worried about her. They had not seen her in days! After about 5 days, snow and ice were starting to melt and then they saw her! She had burrowed in, basically making herself  an igloo and survived the ice storm. Princess Elsa will never know not having a shelter again.

Milo and Otis

Milo and Otis were rescued from a dairy farm. Boys born onto a dairy farm are usually taken to be slaughtered right away or put in a small, confined area to be slaughtered later as veal. They made their way to Fauna Haven when they were about 3 months old. They will now get to live out their natural lives without any worries.

Hershey and Sally

After moving to this property we hired someone to help with the driveway.  When he was wrapping things up he asked out of the blue, "You wouldn't be interested in a small mule and a half-miniature donkey would you?" They were downsizing and listed them on Craigslist of all places. We offered the very bonded pair a forever home and promised them they never have to worry about being separated.

Obi "One".....now "None" Kenobi

Obi "One" Kenobi, now Obi "None" Kenobi after losing his one horn, was picked up by animal control as a stray and brought to the Fauquier SPCA. They asked us to take him in. We later found out he had belonged to an old man who kept him chained to a log 24/7 with no shelter. He escaped, went on an adventure, lost a horn and was picked up. It was a worthwhile adventure as he ended up here at Fauna Haven where he will always have family and shelter.

Donner and Blitzen

Once upon a time, there was an abnormally cold Christmas Eve with windchills around 9 below. We were worried about the Fauna Haven family, going out in the middle of the night to check on them and fluff their hay. We later found out that very night, Donner and Blitzen were stuck in the middle of the river! Deemed to dangerous the rescue, they had to wait out the night. It's a Christmas miracle that they both survived!

Carl

We decided right away we would never seek out animals, instead letting them come to us naturally. We were sad though because we really wanted a friend for Elsa. Alvin, Simon & Theodore all had each other but Elsa was in the other house alone. One day we were called about a pig who wondered onto a horse farm. While in quarantine we told Carl and Else about each other. Once they met, it was like a Disney story with hearts and butterflies, destined to be together - Soulmates like Adam and Joy.

Mike & Ike

Mike and Ike were strays in Harrisonburg. Ike with the "ice blue" eyes, and Mike with brown eyes. They made their way to Fauna Haven on Halloween. Such little cutie pies!

Casper and Moose

Someone called and asked us if we had room for "one lamb". It turns out he was at the slaughterhouse. We let him know we don't support that. He ended up bringing us 5 lambs that night. Although he picked the smallest, healthiest looking they were all very sick. We spent months working to get them healthy but sadly ended up losing sweet Fiona, Peanut and Stitch. Casper and Moose are our little survivors. They have beat odds and now have a loving, forever home here at Fauna Haven.

Mr. Carson, Sybil and Marigold

We were asked to take in 3 very neglected sheep. They were closed up in a barn, even during the 100 degree weather. They had not been sheared in over two years at least (first photo after 10 hours of trimming hooves and wool). Their hooves were so long they were walking on their knees. There was no question Fauna Haven needed to be their forever home. Mr. Carson (closest) is thought to be double digits (in 2025). Sybil (middle) & Marigold (far) are around 7. They will never know neglect again.
